It looks like AMD will release open source drivers for their ATI acquisition. This would follow the lead by Intel which has released open source drivers for their graphics cards. This is good news. It should pave the way for getting full 3D support into the majority of distributions. I tried to enable Beryl on the latest Ubuntu for a ATI Radeon 9800 with little success. Now to get all the wireless chip manufacturers to follow and we’ll see some really good desktop Linux installs.
