Macworld 2007: Predictions

Macworld 2007 keynote is in about 9 hours. Being the Mac geek that I am, I’ve got to list my predictions:

  • Demos of new Leopard look (Finder + overall graphical theme)
  • iWork ‘07 with spreadsheet
  • iLife ‘07 more of the same - incremental improvements but nothing major
  • Airport Extreme X2/X4 (already leaked so easy guess)
  • MacPro Dual 4-way machines (total of 8 CPUs). I want one but have no idea what I’d use all that power for (maybe run Vista on BootCamp?)
  • Details on the iTV thing - probably with iPod branding
  • iTunes HD (gotta put something on the iTV device)
  • Cinema Displays with built-in iSight and some insanely large size like 42″
  • One more thing…iPhone mini/nano/candybar/whatever. It’s coming. No possible way it can live up to the hype.

The real story this year with Apple will be Leopard and improving market share. Vista is a resource pig so if you gotta buy a new machine, might as well make it a Mac. And Vista’s DRM lock downs should tick more people off enough to switch as well. iTV should open a new era for iTunes and start the real war for digital downloads. The days of cable and satellite TV have to be numbered. If I could get iTunes subscriptions for shows in HD, I’d probably think about dumping my DirecTV system.
