I went to see Casino Royale with some friends tonight. Bond is back in a big way. I’ve always been a 007 fan. Connery was of course my favorite. I liked Dalton. Brosnan was ok. Moore and the other guy - not so good. Daniel Craig I think is easily the best Bond since Connery. He fits the part very well and is more in the Connery mold.
I actually had not paid much attention to the new movie until I started to hear the buzz about the different take they had on the Bond story. It works well. Clearly, the movie was influenced by other contemporary action pictures like one of my favorites, The Bourne Identity.
The story wasn’t about a supervillan taking over the world. It was believable enough (for a Bond movie). No off the wall gadgets and really no cheesy one liners. The new Bond may be the most intimidating version yet. He is more of a brawler and much more physical. He’s awkward in all the situations that have become cliche for Bond. The adventure is still fun and still enough over the top to keep the Bond mystic.
I enjoyed the movie and look forward to more of Daniel Craig as James Bond.
