Haven’t We Been Through This Already?

Ballmer and company are on the warpath again. This time, we owe Microsoft for the privilege of running Linux. But Microsoft won’t tell us exactly why. Didn’t SCO already try this?

I suppose it is what we’ve come to expect of Microsoft. These seem like desparate measures by a desparate company. How scared should we really be? It’s not like IBM won’t step in and say something. Red Hat, Oracle, Yahoo, Google, HP, Intel - all of these companies have interests in Linux. They have the strength to stand up to what is most certainly a marginal case at best.

Someday I hope that software becomes science and engineering instead of proprietary land grabs. Of course we all build upon each other. That’s science, that’s progress. No one complains when one bridge is designed like another. The implementation is unique. The refinement is unique. I believe software is the same.
