Well, I didn’t see that coming. I’m not surprised that the game ended in PK’s but I am surprised how it got there. In no particular order:
- Zidane went from ending his career the way the great ones should to complete humilation. No one will ever look at him the same again.
- How can Henry not finish the match? I know he gave everything and really had nothing left but it seemed destined to go to penalties and to not have him was a major blow.
- Viera is so overrated
- The Italians showed how nothing is over until it is over. How many times in this tournament should they have exited? Yet they gave up their first real goal in the final. They deserve to win the cup but I really can’t believe they managed to do it.
- ABC/ESPN did a good job on covering the tournament. Everyone I know has been watching and talking about it. Let’s hope this is a start of something bigger. How cool would it be for ESPN to show a prime matchup every week from leagues around the world?
I enjoyed this tournament very much. I wish the US could have built on their showing from 2002. Germany did a fanstatic job hosting the tournament. Only a month until English Premier League starts…
