The Mac Store opened up a store in Redmond Town Center this week. RTC happens to be about 3 minutes from Microsoft’s main campus. The irony of course is very amusing. But all kidding aside, there is something more interesting going on.

A few years ago, it seemed that the Microsoft Windows platform would obliterate everything else. But a series of events have made for a more diverse computing environment than perhaps any other time. Apple’s platform on the desktop, Linux on the server, and Google redefining the very essence of applications all show what can be done outside the confines of Microsoft.
The continued presence and influence that the Macintosh platform provides helps out everyone. Microsoft can’t afford to take the risks that Apple can. The influence Apple has put on the industry is undeniable. It’s great to see more places like The Mac Store show that Windows is not the only way. I’ve been a Mac user for nearly 20 years and I certainly can’t recall a better time than now.
